Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala concluded the fourth round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship with a 10th-place finish in the feature race at Silverstone. His teammate, Dan Ticktum finished in second place.
Starting 12th on the grid, Daruvala dropped to 15th at the end of the opening lap,not helped by the fact that he started on the harder compound of tyres compared to the rest of the grid. But this is a strategic play,as the Indian driver can stay out longer and put on a fresher, and softer compound of tyres during the mandatory pit stop period.
Playing the long game did pay off. Pitting on lap 24 of 29 for a fresh set of tyres, Daruvala made his way up the field to finish in the final points paying position in 10th place, just a couple of tenths off ninth position in the end. The Indian driver also gained two extra points for setting the fastest lap of the race.
Overall it was a nice consolation drive from Daruvala to salvage some points after a difficult couple of sprint races on Saturday. The Indian driver currently stands eight overall in the drivers’ standings heading into the halfway point of the 2021 season.
Formula 2 will once again go on a long hiatus before racing action resumes at Monza, Italy for the fifth round of the season, scheduled for September 10-12.
