Dakar 2022 reached double digit stages, with the 10th stage of the rally seeing competitors travel from Wadi Ad Dawasir to Bisha. The route spanned 759km, of which 375km comprised the special stage. Unfortunately, the latest stage saw the only Indian rider in the rally, Harith Noah, face an unfortunate exit. Here’s how things went down:
Harith Noah was maintaining his consistent run in the rally, running in 27th position. But technical issues before the first waypoint at 42km saw the Indian rider‘s Dakar 2022 campaign come to an unfortunate and abrupt end. This leaves Hero MotoSports as the only Indian presence in the rally in the bikes category, with Aaron Mare and Joaquim Rodrigues finishing in 13th and 14th positions in the latest stage.
At the front of the bikes category, reigning Dakar champion Kevin Benavides (Red Bull KTM Racing) had a shock exit from Dakar 2022 due to a mechanical issue. Coming out on top in the latest stage was Toby Price (Red Bull KTM Racing), followed by Luciano Benavides (Husqvarna Factory Racing) finishing second and Adrien Van Beveren (Monster Energy Yamaha) in third position. This result puts Adrien Van Beveren at the top of the overall standings, with Sam Sunderland (GasGas) second and Pablo Quitanilla (Monster Energy Honda) third. The Hero MotoSports squad of Joaquim Rodrigues and Aaron Mare lie 15th and 16th overall.
Team Audi Sport came out on top in the cars category, with Stephane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz making it a 1-2 finish, with Orlando Terranova (Bahrain Raid Xtreme) finishing in third position. In the overall standings, Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing) continues to lead proceedings with Sebastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Xtreme) closing the gap in second place. Yazeed Al Rajhi (Overdrive Toyota) rounds out the top three spots.
With Stage 10 of Dakar 2022 done and dusted, we head towards the penultimate stretch of the rally. Stage 11, spanning 501km, out of which 346km will comprise the special stage, will loop around Bisha, with competitors taking on dunes of all shapes and sizes to spice things up a bit.
