An unlucky yellow flag situation at the dying stages of qualifying stopped the Indian driver’s progress

Returning to Silverstone for the fifth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala qualified 16th on the grid for the feature race, with teammate Yuki Tsunoda in 10th.

The two Red Bull junior drivers were relatively consistent in the top 10 practice, but it was short lived as the initial qualifying runs left Daruvala in 17th and Tsunoda 11th.

Heading into the closing stages of qualifying, both Jehan Daruvala and Yuki Tsunoda did improve on their personal best lap times to 16th and 10th respectively. But as the two drivers were on for more improvements on their final laps, an incident in sector 2 resulted in yellow flags. Thus an unlucky turn of events led to a difficult grid slot for tomorrow’s feature race.

While both Red Bull junior drivers grid slots don’t look good, the field is extremely tight as the top 18 drivers were covered by just 1 second. And a top 8 finish would wind up being a strong starting position for the sprint race on Sunday due to the top eight finishers from the feature race lining up in a reversed order.

Daruvala will be hoping to replicate if not exceed what he did in the previous round’s 4th place finish. The feature race commences on Saturday at 8:15pm (IST) and will be streamed live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
