We review Norev's 1:18 scale rendition of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is long considered to be one of the best cars in the world and naturally there are a few model companies that make detailed replicas of the same. Seen here is the 1:18 rendition of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in 1:18th scale. The model, made by Norev is the official dealer edition version and can be ordered from any Mercedes-Benz dealership in the country.

The first thing that strikes you in the 1:18th version of the model is the large chrome grille and LED festooned headlamp cluster. The headlamps are extremely well detailed and have separate elements for the actual headlights, the daytime running lights and the indicators. The model is well made and the panel gaps between separate pieces are absolutely perfect, reminiscent of the actual car.

At the rear, the tail lamps, again LED gives the model a very realistic feel. Our only complaints would be the reflectors in the rear bumper and wheel design that Norev has chosen. We would have hoped the 1:18th version of the S-Class came with a set of larger, better-looking wheels. That said, the replication of the wheels themselves is absolutely spot on with little details like the air valves well detailed. The panoramic roof that stretches all the way from the front to the back too is extremely well replicated in the 1:18th scale model.

Most modern Mercedes-Benz engine bays are extremely simple with everything concealed and not much detail. The same is the case with the 1:18th version. That said, the engine cover, intake hoses and other markings on the engine could have been replicated better. The passenger cabin of the car on the other hand is well replicated with a two-tone beige and black interiors. Although the model is an excellent replication of the S-Class, the older generation (W221) cars made by legendary model makers Autoart were most certainly better cars, especially if one considers the AMG versions that came with actual leather seats.
