Among the first entrants from the Volkswagen stable in India, both the Passat and Jetta were noticeably elite and upper class in their proportions and overall look and features. However, with a couple of years now behind them, their much needed facelifted versions have now begun tip toeing into India, starting with the 2011 version of the Volkswagen Passat, that became the first car in India from Volkswagen to feature its patented Bluemotion technologies.
Now, with a number of new Passat models already on Indian roads, the German carmaker makes another strategic move by bringing to its Indian customers, the latest international version it all new Jetta sedan, that is like all its premium sedans designed for global markets is a complete treat to the eyes and apart from its 90 mm longer frame boasts of some top of the line features and technological upgrades in its class.
These include leather seat upholstery, a leather package for the steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever etc. Day time running lights, Cruise control, Hill Start Assist, an electrically adjustable driver seats, rear AC vents, a touchscreen entertainment system with an integrated CD player, aux input and 8 speakers all comes as standard with this new version of the Volkswagen Jetta.
The all New Jetta (Read : First Drive) is equipped with 2.0Litre, 4 cylinder CR TDI engine with a maximum power output of 140PS @ 4200rpm and a maximum torque of 320 Nm @1750-2500 rpm. Mated to a 6 speed DSG gearbox and a Manual version, the new Jetta will have smoother gearshift and better responsiveness as compared to the older model. For ensuring optimum safety of its drivers and their co-passengers, the new Jetta will feature Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and 8 Airbags to minimize injury in the event of an accident or collision. A 3-point belt for the center rear seat is also a welcome feature in this new version.
Speaking during the presentation of the all-new Jetta, Mr. Neeraj Garg, Member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said, “The Jetta has been a worldwide bestseller for Volkswagen, and with the sixth generation we are confident to continue this success story in an important market like India.“
Available in a variety of exterior shades that include Candy White, Reflex silver, Coffee brown, Deep black pearl, Platinum grey, Silver leaf, the base model of the new Volkwagen Jetta will sell for 14.12 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) with the top end selling for under 18 lakhs. The three variants of the new Volkswagen Jetta, namely the Trendline, the Comfortline and the Highline will all be available in both Manual and Automatic Transmission options.
