Ford EcoSport Facelift Spyshot

Ford’s offering in the compact SUV segment, the EcoSport was launched in India back in June 2013. Recently, the facelifted EcoSport has been spotted testing in Brazil. The test mule has been heavily camouflaged with the front and the rear end completely covered. However, once can make out that the overall silhouette of the car has not changed much.

At the front the new Ecosport will most likely have new headlamps along with a new larger front grille. Styling cues have been borrowed from the new Ford Endeavour (known as Everest in other markets). The car will still remain less than four meters in length and the rear and side profile will also remain similar to the outgoing model.

On the inside the current EcoSport does feel a bit dated, especially when compared to its chief rival, the Vitara Brezza. With the update, we can expect Ford to equip the EcoSport with SYNC 2 infotainment system.

According to a few reports, Ford will launch a new 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that will churn out around 133PS of power with the new EcoSport. However, we can expect the compact SUV to be mechanically unchanged in the Indian market. It will be available with a choice of a 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 1.5-litre petrol unit mated to an automatic gearbox, and a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.

The facelifted model will be launched internationally by the end of this year and we can expect the same to hit Indian shores by the first half of 2017. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that is used in the EcoSport has also won the small capacity engine of the year award recently.
