Hyundai manufacturer has introduced a sportier version of the next-generation Elantra in Korea. The Elantra, which is badged as the Avante, in Korea, is now available with a notorious version dubbed as the Avante Sport or the Elantra Sport (as we know it). The motor now packs 201PS of firepower under its belly and is priced at 19,630,000 in Korean money (Rs 11,43,660, felt the temptation, yet?).

The motor is a 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol, which, apart from the mentioned power, produces 265Nm of torque. All of this is transferred to the tarmac via a 6-speed manual transmission, or an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. This lets the Elantra achieve the 100kmph from standstill in just 8 seconds.

Apart from these, one can upgrade the Elantra Sport with some other optional extras that include better stabiliser bars, stiffer suspension springs and dampers. However, the rear independent suspensions are standard, which will improve the driving dynamics of the car.

The Elantra Sport has been sharpened a little when it comes to the design of the car. The front end gets sharp looking headlamps with a unique DRL layout as compared to the regular Elantra and a dash of red just below the projector unit. The grille sports horizontal slats and a tiny ‘turbo’ badge to mark the intent of this car. The fog lamp enclosures are carved in an aggressive manner as compared to the normal Elantra. In profile, the Elantra Sport features 18-inch alloy wheels and side skirts, while the rear gets a faux-lower diffuser and twin exhaust tip.

The interiors feature sporty black-red upholstery, semi-bucket seats up front and a flat-bottom steering wheel with contrasting red stitching on it. It also gets a touchscreen infotainment system along with other features like dual-zone climate control.

The next-gen Elantra will make it here in a matter of few months and will take on the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, and Chevrolet Cruze. As far as the Sports trim is concerned, it seems a rather far-fetched dream.
