The 2019 BMW 3 Series has been spied testing in India. It was spotted doing the rounds for ARAI testing. Given that the 3 Series is one of the better selling models in the BMW lineup, the new one is hotly anticipated.
The G20 3 Series is based on BMW’s new Cluster Architecture or CLAR platform which also underpins the current 5 and 7 Series sedans. Which basically means the new 3 Series is significantly larger and more stately than the car it will replace. Compared to the old car, it is 76mm longer, 37mm wider and gets a 41mm longer wheelbase which should free up more space at the rear making it ideal for people who want to be driven rather than drive themselves. In addition, the front and rear track have increased by 43mm and 21mm respectively. But despite the increase in size, the new 3 Series has actually shed 55kg of weight, thanks to the new platform.

Inside, the cabin receives a significant update as well. The analogue instrument cluster will be replaced by a digital screen but will likely be reserved for the top variant only. The new 8.8-inch infotainment screen will be offered as standard with a possibility of upgrading to larger screens. There will likely be no touchscreen but gesture controls will make the cut.

As for the engines, internationally, the 3 Series will be made available with five engine options. But in India, we will likely get the 2.0-litre diesel in two states of tune - 150PS and 190PS -, along with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 184PS of max power. A 258PS (330i) could be added later. All engines will likely be mated to the ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox only.

The new 3 Series is likely to be launched in India by the end of 2019 at a price ranging from Rs 39.8 lakh to Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant. When launched, it will go up against the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the refreshed Audi A4 and possibly a refreshed Jaguar XE as well.
