The 2019 BMW R 1250 GS will be making its debut in India on 20 January. BMW Motorrad dealerships across India have already started accepting bookings for the bike for a token amount of Rs 3 lakh while deliveries for this top-of-the-line ADV is expected to commence from February 2019. The 1250 GS is offered in two variants, Standard and Adventure, and will replace the current crop of R 1200 GS models. Similar to its predecessor, the flagship BMW ADV bike will be brought to India via the CBU route. With a bigger and more tech-laden engine, expect the R 1250 GS to command a premium of around Rs 1.5 lakhs over the outgoing model. To put things into perspective, the Standard and Adventure variants of the current GS are priced at Rs 15.70 lakh and 17.10 lakh respectively.

So what can you expect for this premium? Simply put, you get a bigger engine, better features and new colour options to choose from. BMW was one of the front-runners when it came to pioneering technology on bikes, and the GS models aren’t any different. To begin with, the 2019 GS’ boxer-twin motor has been pushed from 1170cc to 1254cc by increasing the bore and stroke. Additionally, the bike gets ‘ShiftCam’ technology which is just a fancier word for Variable Valve Timing (VVA).

It gets a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The BMW R 1250 GS gets a host of features as well, from riding modes, hill start control, traction control to a full TFT display with smartphone connectivity.
