The 2020 Audi A3 Sportback, which was set to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, has been globally revealed. For now, the 2020 A3 is only available as a hatchback. The sedan and estate versions is expected to join the lineup later in the year.
The 2020 A3’s design is typical Audi with sharp lines and creases. The front end comes with the typical Audi single-piece grille, sleek LED headlamps with snazzy DRLs and a sporty bumper with contrasting white coloured inserts. In profile, the 2020 A3 looks sporty thanks to the sharp shoulder line, large 18-inch alloy wheels and the hunkered-down stance. Complementing it further are the two haunches on either side which adds muscle. Moving on to the back, the A3 comes with stylish LED tail lamps and a sporty rear bumper.
Inside, the 2020 A3’s dashboard doesn’t have any traces of its predecessor. The virtual cockpit flanked by twin AC vents and the sleek three-spoke steering wheel make it feel like a Playstation controller! The centre console is also new and comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment system which features Audi’s latest MMI interface. Other highlights include the redesigned climate control knobs and the faux AC vents which run through the passenger’s side.
In terms of features, the 2020 Audi A3 comes with connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, Audi Drive Select drive modes and a host of driver assist functions like park assist, lane exit warning, and adaptive cruise control.
The 2020 Audi A3 will initially be offered with two engine options: a 1.5-litre TSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The petrol motor develops 150PS of power while the TDI diesel engine puts out 116PS. Both motors spin the front wheels via either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The 2020 Audi A3 will go on sale in the European market first with prices starting from 28,900 Euros (Rs 23.54 lakh). Like the current A3 sold in India, expect Audi India to launch the new model as a sedan in India once it is unveiled globally later in the year. Rivals for the Audi A3 Sportback include the VW Golf, BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
