[Update: Honda has commenced deliveries of the new 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sport. Know more details here.]
The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports BS6 has been launched in India. Overseas, the Africa Twin comes in two versions: standard and Adventure Sports. Honda will be launching both models here eventually but for now we get the more capable Adventure Sports version in manual and DCT auto gearbox trims. The CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports prices start at Rs 15.35 lakh (manual variant), a substantial Rs 1.85 lakh over the previous CRF1000L Africa Twin DCT variant. The CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT variant, meanwhile, costs Rs 16.1 lakh (all prices ex-showroom India). For that extra premium, the new Africa Twin gets a new, larger motor, new frame, and a host of electronic updates.
The biggest change is the new 1084cc motor whose capacity has increased from 998cc thanks to an increase in stroke from 75.1mm to 81.5mm. It now delivers 102PS and 105Nm, a hike of 7PS and 7Nm. The motor gets new cylinder heads, new valve timing, updated ECU, and a catalytic converter to help it clear Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. While the previous versions of the Africa Twins sold in India came with a DCT gearbox, the 2020 versions will be available with the six-speed manual and DCT auto gearbox options.

Along with the new motor comes 6-axis IMU-based rider aids. The 2020 Africa Twin gets Honda Selectable Torque Control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and rear lift control. The cruise control feature has been carried over. All these rider aids can be accessed via a new 6.5-inch TFT colour display which comes with Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay.
The chassis is all-new as well. It features a bolt-on subframe instead of the previous welded setup for better serviceability and affordability in case you drop it. The seat height has gone up from the previous 820mm-840mm setup to 850mm-870mm. However, the seat is 40mm narrower than before. The Adventure Sports model gets Showa 45mm USD fully-adjustable fork and preload- and rebound-adjustable monoshock. The 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels can accommodate tubeless tyres.
The 2020 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports competes with the new Triumph Tiger 900, Ducati Multistrada 950, and the BMW F 850 GS.
Honda has big plans for its large-capacity products in India. It will be adding more premium Honda BigWing dealerships in 2020, and launching the Forza 300 premium scooter as well.
