Kawasaki has unveiled the 2020 Ninja 1000SX at the 2019 EICMA. This model is the successor of the Ninja 1000 and comes with subtle yet crucial updates for 2020. Expect the bike to be launched in India in mid-2020 at a premium of around Rs 50,000- Rs 60,000 over the Ninja 1000, which retails at Rs 10.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
For starters, the engine is Euro 5-compliant but the displacement and the output figures have remained unchanged with the torque arriving at slightly later down the rev range. The 1043cc inline four motor produces 142PS and 10,000rpm and 111Nm at 8000rpm. The engine works alongside a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch.
Kawasaki has retained the electronics suite in the 2020 model as well. This includes two power modes, three-level traction control system, and an IMU-based cornering ABS. Additionally, the 2020 model gets standard electronic cruise control and a bi-directional quickshifter as well.
Another major change is the inclusion of a proper 10.9cm TFT instrument console with Bluetooth compatibility via ‘Rideology The App’. This replaces the relatively simpler semi-digital unit found in the Euro 4-compliant model, and it should keep the geeks happy.
The bike continues to employ a fully adjustable 41mm inverted fork and a gas-charged monoshock with spring preload and rebound adjustability. Brakes are also the same - dual 300mm petal discs and a 250mm petal disc at the rear. The 17-inch wheels are shod with Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tyres, which is claimed to offer superior grip in both wet and dry conditions.
For comfier ergonomics, the pillion seat has been made thicker and wider, and the windscreen is now adjustable up to four levels. Another subtle design feature is the redesigned single-sided exhaust. Though it looks bulky, it actually saves 2kg over the previous quad exhausts. The 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 is available in three colour options: grey, green and white.
