Mahindra is frequent in the news section thanks to the BS6 updates, Bolero facelift, new Scorpio, Thar, and the XUV500. The Indian SUV manufacturer is also readying the BS6 version of the full-size Alturas G4, which we had spotted testing on our roads. Now, Mahindra has teased the SUV on its official website. Here’s everything you need to know.
At present, the Alturas G4 comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that develops 181PS and 420Nm. We expect to see the same engine in its BS6 avatar mated to the same 7-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz. That said, the international version of the Alturas G4, the SsangYong Rexton, gets the same motor in a higher 187PS tune. We cannot rule out the possibility of Mahindra offering the same in India.
Again, the test mule spied in India was shod with different dual-tone alloy wheels. Besides that, there weren't any major changes to the black SUV you see here. We couldn't catch a glimpse of the front end, but if we go by the recent updates to the Rexton, we can expect a bigger grille and revised bumper design.
The cabin design, layout, and the feature list are likely to remain the same. Some highlights are a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered driver seat, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, cruise control, coloured multi-info display, and ventilated seats. Safety features include nine airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera, electronic stability program, hill start assist, and hill descent control.
It is safe to expect a substantial premium for the Alturas G4 BS6, especially since it's a diesel SUV. The current model is priced from Rs 27.7 lakh to Rs 30.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Its key rivals are the Ford Endeavour, Isuzu MU-X, and the Toyota Fortuner.
