Our sources at Skoda Auto India have confirmed that the 2020 Superb facelift will go on sale in the second quarter of 2020. An undisguised test mule of the upcoming model has been spotted undergoing emission testing in the country. The 2020 Skoda Superb comes with plenty of redesigned elements and cleaner BS6-compliant diesel and petrol powertrains. Skoda will be present at the Auto Expo 2020 and we expect the carmaker to showcase the updated model at the event. Expect to pay more than the current Rs 26 lakh price tag for this new one. Meanwhile, here’s what our recent sighting of the facelifted Superb reveals.
The Skoda Superb facelift comes with minimal styling updates to keep things fresh. It comes with new split LED tail lamps that are connected by a thin chrome strip a la the recently launched Audi A6. And the rear Skoda logo has been traded for the Skoda nomenclature like on the Kodiaq Scout. Changes to the profile are limited to new dual-tone alloy wheels while a sneak peek at the front reveals new headlamps that could be Matrix LED units.
The international-spec Skoda Superb facelift received very minimal interior updates. However, it came with new features like a digital instrument display, a bigger 9.2-inch infotainment system and connected car technology. We expect to see these upgrades in the Indian car as well. Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, cruise control, sunroof and parking assist are carried over from the current model. Safety features include 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, hill-hold control, electric parking brake with auto hold, traction control, electronic stability control and driver fatigue alert system.
Powertrain options for the facelifted Superb are yet to be revealed. The sedan comes with a plethora of petrol, diesel as well as hybrid powertrain in international markets. For India, the sedan could come with the 2.0-litre TDI and 2.0-litre TSI powertrains, both developing 190PS and compliant with BS6 emission norms. It is likely that they could come with a DSG transmission as standard. The explosive 1.8-litre TSI engine will be discontinued post April 2020 due to the upcoming BS6 emission norms.
Considering the updates, expect the Skoda Superb to cost more than the current model which is priced from Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched in April 2020, it will rekindle its rivalry with the Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord Hybrid and the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
