Soon after teasing its flagship adventure bikes, BMW Motorrad India has now started accepting bookings for the 2021 BMW R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The official launch of both is set to take place in the first half of July with deliveries beginning one week post launch.
The BS6 models of both the BMW R 1250 GS and Adventure are already on sale in India at Rs 20.45 lakh and Rs 22.35 lakh, respectively. For 2021, they will boast new colour schemes and a new Integral ABS Pro mode along with optional adaptive cornering lights. Also, we will finally get to see the ‘40 Years GS Edition’ for both models in India, which come draped in flashy yellow/black paint and get special components like a yellow seat, a yellow tinted visor, and golden spoke wheels.

What will remain unchanged are their mechanical components. Both bikes will continue to use a 1254cc boxer engine that puts out 138PS and 143Nm, and features BMW’s potent ShiftCam technology (variable valve actuation). Keeping a close eye on the engine is an extensive electronics system that includes three riding modes, traction control, ABS, and hill-hold assist, all accessible via a TFT instrument cluster. LED lighting comes standard too.
Given the updates, the 2021 R 1250 GS twins shouldn’t command too big a premium over the current-gen model, retailing at around Rs 50,000 over their current prices. Meanwhile, the special 40th Anniversary edition liveries could come at a premium of Rs 1 lakh.
In recent times, there haven’t been any natural rivals to the two R 1250 GS models in India which has made it the go-to bike for off-road enthusiasts with deep pockets. But with Harley-Davidson launching its Pan America 1260 at a relatively lower price and Ducati set to launch the Multistrada V4 soon, the R 1250 GS’ dominance could soon come to an end.
