The 2021 Munich Motor Show, also known as the IAA Mobility 2021, is slated for September 2021. This motor show has a lot riding over its shoulders as it’s one of the first full-fledged automobile events since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This should come across as good news for car enthusiasts as plenty of motor show events had been and, like the Auto Expo 2022, are still being postponed or cancelled due to the different strains of the virus.
So with sky high expectations, here are the swanky cars and concepts expected to be previewed in the 2021 Munich Motor Show.
Audi Grand Sphere Concept
After taking the wraps of the Sky Sphere concept, Audi is expected to reveal the Grand Sphere concept at the Auto Expo 2020. A teaser image previewed by the Ingolstadt carmaker suggests it could be the all-electric A8 of the future. The all-electric sedan will also boast tech like Artificial Intelligence and level-four driver assistance features. Read more about it here.
Next-gen BMW 7 Series
Bavarian carmaker BMW is rumoured to take the wraps off the next-gen 7 Series at the Munich Motor Show. The manufacturer has been testing this model for a while and test mules hint at an evolutionary design. We just hope that BMW doesn’t screw it up with the ungainly large kidney grilles. As with every generation update, expect the new 7 to be more luxurious, tech-laden, powerful, and cleaner than before.
Dacia 7-Seater
Dacia, the budget brand of Renault, will be taking the wraps off a new 7-seater family vehicle. We suspect it will be the successor to the Lodgy MPV that was offered in India until the BS6 emissions norms are introduced.
Mercedes-Benz EQE
One of the most important unveils at the 2021 Munich Motor Show is the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, also known as the all-electric E-Class. It’s expected to have similar design touches as the EQS and will come with that fancy MBUX Hyperscreen as well. And considering Merc’s aggressive product strategy in India, this model could be launched on our shores in the future. Learn more about the EQE here.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
The second all-electric model touted to be unveiled from Mercedes is the uber luxurious Maybach EQS SUV. Again, details are scarce at the moment. But like the standard Maybach GLS, the all-electric luxury SUV will push the envelope in luxury and should feature that glorious MBUX hyperscreen from the EQS. Watch out for more updates on this.
Mercedes-AMG EQS Sedan
The third all-electric Mercedes (and a hot one at that) will be a performance-oriented luxury offering. And we suspect it is the AMG version of the EQS, which will be the first all-electric model from the house of AMG. There won’t be any doubt that performance will be blitzing as this model is touted to have a massive 751PS on tap. Bring it on Mercedes!
Mercedes-Benz EQG
Rumor has it that Mercedes could also be taking the wraps off the all-electric G-Class concept at the IAA 2021. Slated to go on sale in 2024, the all-electric G-Class is likely to look quite similar to the current model with only a few EV-specific elements. The flagship offroader could borrow most of the tech from the EQS while the offroad hardware should be better than the current model. All in all, expectations are sky high for this one.
Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door Hybrid
It’s not only EVs that Mercedes will be displaying at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. The German carmaker will likely showcase the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4 Door coupe which will pack a hybridised 4-litre twin-turbo V8 pumping out approximately 815PS, making it the most powerful version of this motor.
Porsche Electric Concept
Porsche has teased an all-electric concept that's slated for debut at the IAA 2021. The teaser image reveals the headlamps of the upcoming model, which is strongly reminiscent of the Taycan. While we aren’t exactly sure about what model it is, reports suggest that it could be the all-electric 718 Boxster. Stay tuned until more details surface online.
VW ID.5 SUV Coupe
Last but not least is the Volkswagen ID.5, essentially a SUV-coupe derivative of the ID.4. The ID.5 will borrow the interior, powertrains and features of the ID.4. It’s just that the ID.5 looks more flamboyant thanks to its sloping roofline and unique rear-end design.
These are the ten important models that are likely to be unveiled at the IAA 2021. Which one are you waiting for? Let us know in the comments below.
