Design changes will include dual-beam LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, and restyled LED tail lamps.
Cabin to receive larger touchscreen, single-pane sunroof, roof-mounted speakers, and flat-bottom steering wheel.
Likely to get more powerful 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines from the Thar.
Expect a launch around January 2022.
While Mahindra is currently focused on the XUV700, it’s planning another major launch: the next iteration of the Scorpio which has been spied testing once again. This time, images reveal an important safety feature.
If you take a closer look at the front grille below the badge, you’ll notice a front camera, essentially confirming the 360-degree camera feature. The rest of the Scorpio body is still disguised, like in previous spy shots, but it retains its predecessor’s overall silhouette while still looking bigger. Other design highlights include new dual-beam LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and restyled LED tail lamps.
Earlier spy shots of the cabin have already revealed the new Scorpio will get roof-mounted (probably branded) speakers, dual-zone climate control, a single-pane sunroof, a larger touchscreen infotainment system (possibly running Mahindra’s new AdrenoX infotainment software), and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It could also feature connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multiple airbags, and keyless entry with push-button start.

The new Scorpio will likely be propelled by the Thar’s 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2.0-litre petrol engines, albeit retuned for more oomph. Transmission options should include 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, with rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrain options. Rear disc brakes, a new addition to the SUV, should ensure better stopping power.
Mahindra will likely launch the next-generation Scorpio sometime around January 2022 at a premium over the current-gen model that retails from Rs 12.59 lakh to Rs 17.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the Scorpio doesn’t have a true rival, it can serve as a rugged alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.
