Volvo has revealed the updated XC60 SUV, now more tech-heavy, feature-loaded, and safer than before. As part of its midlife update, the carmaker has provided the XC60 with a new Android-based infotainment system, the latest radar-based safety features, and a few cosmetic enhancements. The new XC60 is slated to grace overseas markets in May 2021.

The most significant additions have been on the inside, with the SUV now equipped with Volvo’s new Android-based infotainment system (co-developed by Google) that debuted in the XC40 Recharge. One can access Google apps and services by signing up for the carmaker’s ‘Digital Services’ package. Also, Google Maps can be used from the head unit itself, which is one of the best in the business.

Good news for vegans! Volvo has now provided the SUV with optional leather-free (read: faux leather) upholstery with the regular textile fabric. The exterior gets its share of updates, including a revised grille, a new front bumper, and redesigned alloy wheels.

The XC60 now comes with the latest Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform, with safety features such as automatic braking and lane keep assist. While the pre-facelift XC60 comes with such features, Volvo says this is the improved version of the existing system.

The press release doesn’t have any mention of the powertrains. Considering Volvo electrified the XC60 in December 2020, the updated model should continue to utilise the greener engines. Currently, the India-spec model draws its power from a 235PS/480Nm 2.0-litre diesel engine, which could be replaced with a hybrid powertrain in the future.

We can hazard a guess that the updated XC60 will be launched in India soon, at a premium over the current model priced from Rs 59.90 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). When launched, it will rekindle its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, and the upcoming facelifted Audi Q5.
