When it comes to horsepower, the Italians have had the bragging rights for quite a while now. And one would think that the majority of our list of powerful motorcycles would comprise sultry exotic faired beauties. Quite the opposite actually as there is just a single sportbike, which made it to the top five list and even that came from Japan! Intrigued? But before you scroll down, we are not considering the mental Ducati Streetfighter V4 S or the updated Panigale V2 as the two made their debut at the Ducati World Premiere 2020, a month before EICMA. So, here are the 5 most powerful motorcycles unveiled at EICMA 2019:
1. Honda CBR1000RR-R - 217.5PS
It is very hard to fathom that of all the manufacturers in the world it was Honda who brought the most powerful production bike at EICMA 2019. Despite the umpteen number of Rs in its name, the CBR1000RR-R is Honda’s first bike to break into the 200PS+ club of elite motorcycles. While it is not the most powerful production-spec bike in the world (Panigale V4 R at 220PS holds that record), it ranks in at number 2, snatching the spot from the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory by 0.5PS!
2. MV Agusta Brutale 1000 RR - 208PS
The kickstarter of the 200PS naked motorcycle club was the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro. Sure, Alex Valia pulling incredible wheelies on the Ducati Streetfighter V4 has broken the internet, but MV Agusta’s non-limited edition Brutale 1000 RR is on par with the Bolognese naked missile. These two Italian heavyweights are tied at 208PS. Ducati might have the edge in terms of peak torque produced or for being the lighter of the two but there is no disputing the fact that the Brutale 1000 RR looks more exotic to our eyes.
3. KTM 1290 Super Duke R - 180PS
The Beast rebirthed — that’s the tagline of the new 1290 Super Duke R. In the company of the aforementioned wild Italians, this mental Austrian twin wants to prove that it is not always about horsepower. The 1301cc V-twin motor makes a phenomenal 140Nm of torque — 17Nm and 23.5Nm more than the Streetfighter V4 and Brutale 1000 RR. With a new chassis, KTM claims that it is the sharpest that the 1290 has ever been.
4. BMW S 1000 XR - 165PS
You might be baffled that an adventure-ish sports tourer is part of this list but the BMW S 1000 XR was indeed one of the most powerful motorcycles to grace the show floors of EICMA 2019. The new model’s 999cc inline four heart has neither received the same ShiftCam tech from the S 1000 RR nor seen an increase in power. What the bike has gone through is a workout session where it lost 10 kilos.
5. Energica Eva Rebelle - 145.5PS
The electric revolution is coming, there is no stopping that. Even though there is a major influx of cheap plasticky rebadged Chinese scooters in India, there is always hope that there will be something for the enthusiast. Something like the Energica Eva Rebelle. The stripped down version of the Ego, the Eva Rebelle, boasts of some crazy figures. 105kw of power, 215Nm of torque and still capable of delivering 400km of range on a single charge. Wish it comes to India!
