Earlier, we had reported that Great Wall Motors (GWM) will be entering India with its popular SUV brand, the Haval. The manufacturer will be showcasing its portfolio at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020. While the Auto Expo is still a few months away, we had reported about a few models that could be the perfect fit for India. Haval also recently unveiled the H9, a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour rival in Malaysia. If the H9 is a touch too big for you, the carmaker has taken the wraps of a new mid-size SUV, the H6. The Haval H6 will take on the likes of the MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500 when it comes to India. Could it repeat the success of these popular models with a possible Rs 15 lakh price tag?
Visually, the H6 gets plenty of design elements from the bigger H9. This includes the horizontal-chrome slat grille that are found in various Havals. The grille is flanked by twin projector headlamps and below it, you get round fog lamps in a chrome housing. At the side, the H6 gets generous body cladding for a rugged look. Dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels further up the ante. Then there is a subtle crease running through the side, giving the H6 some added character. At the rear, the H6 comes with all-LED lights that are connected by a chrome strip. Dual exhausts along with a sporty bumper top the look.
Inside, the H6 comes with a premium cabin that has a touch of Audi thanks to the elongated AC vents on the central console. You also get a 9-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch instrument display that look expensive and premium. The H6 comes loaded with features like an MP5 touchscreen infotainment, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, all-LED exterior lamps, keyless entry with push button start, powered front seats as well as heated steering wheel. Surprisingly, you don’t get Android Auto or Apple CarPlay in such a well equipped car. Safety equipment includes blind spot detection, 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, cross traffic alert and electronic stability program.

Under the hood, the H6 comes with two Euro5 petrol powertrain options: a 1.5-litre T-GDI engine and a 2.0-litre T-GDI unit. The smaller engine develops 163PS and 280Nm while the bigger engine churns 190PS and 340Nm. Both engines come with a 7-speed DCT and sends power to the front wheels only.
The Haval H6 has all the right ingredients to become a potential winner in India. It comes loaded with features, has a premium interior and comes with powerful T-GDI engines. Yes, the lack of a diesel engine might be a bit of a bummer. That said, if priced right, the Haval H6 could repeat the success of its closest competitor from its home turf, the MG Hector.
