New Hero commuter launched

Taking the next step in the direction of launching 15 new products before the end of the current fiscal year, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp launched the all-new Achiever 150 at a sticker price of Rs 61,800 for the drum brake version at an event on Monday. The disc brake version of the Achiever, a bike which has been completely developed in the country, has been priced at Rs 62,800 (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi) .

It has been a year of transitions for the India-based two-wheeler major as it inaugurated a brand new research and development facility earlier this year near Jaipur and also made it clear that it will focus on adding more performance-oriented products despite ruling the roost in the commuter segment. The launch of the new Achiever is also a part of the company’s aggressive stance going forward, which will witness the launch of a total of three new products – including the Super Splendor and Passion Pro with i3S technology – during the festive period itself.

The next-gen Achiever will be powered by the 149cc air-cooled single cylinder, BS IV-compliant engine that has been refined to churn out 13.6PS of maximum power and 12.8Nm of peak torque; as power will be transmitted via a 5-speed transmission. Hero has also adorned the all-new Achiever 150 with its i3S or 'Idle Start Stop System' that will help the motorcycle to get more fuel efficiency (of around 50kmpl) in real world conditions, a first for any 150cc bike in the country. Other notable features include an automatic headlamp that will remain on all the time, tubeless tyres, a maintenance free battery and a viscous air cleaner element.

On the occasion, Hero MotoCorp managing director and CEO, Pawan Munjal also lifted the veil off the limited edition of the Achiever in its white-coloured avatar, adorned with tri-colour stripes, celebrating 70 million sales for the company. Only 70 units of the limited edition will be available for connoisseurs to collect. Apart from this, the bike will be available in two other hues of red and black.

The biggest talking point remains the i3S technology that helps in conserving petrol, as it automatically switches off the engine when the bike is stationary for a few seconds in Neutral gear (for instance at a traffic signal). And the moment the rider engages the clutch, the iSmart technology cranks up the engine by itself. This system was earlier seen on the Hero Splendor iSmart 110 and will sure help the manufacturer regain some lost ground, because of the lacklustre sales of the Xtreme Sports, in the 150cc segment.
