Electrified powertrains were essentially invented to save money and save the environment. But certain players, specifically those who like to floor us with superfast performance figures, have found a more exciting use of the volts. Creations like the Porsche 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and the Mclaren P1 perfectly demonstrate what we are on about. Now, America is about to join that bandwagon, but not with any of its major players.

Aria FXE

The name of the company is Aria Group and we think it is safe to guess that no one outside the world of a car cutter has ever heard of that name. In the past, the company has been involved in projects with bigger carmakers like Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Kia and Tesla, and even contributed in reimagining several iterations of the Porsche 911 with a company called Singer. Aria Group has now unveiled its first-ever production supercar and it’s called the Aria FXE. It is here, almost.

Aria FXE

It is a mid-engined two-seater sportscar that houses a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 from a Corvette Z06 and dual electric motors at either ends of the front e-axle. That makes it a hybrid. The coupling of the two powertrains puts out a total of 1,150PS of power and 1,734Nm of torque. If you think those figures are just ridiculous, we do too. We also think that the guys at Aria are also thinking on the same lines because they haven’t found a gearbox robust enough to handle all those American torques. The dual-clutch gearbox that the company is looking for needs to take care of the all-wheel drive system as well.

The monocoque chassis and body panels are carved out of carbon-fibre. Thanks to that, the FXE weighs around 1,565kg, which is excellent for a car with effectively two types of engines. When Aria manages to find a good enough transmission to handle that grunt, it could complete the 0-100kmph in 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed to 338kmph. At least that’s what the company claims.

Aria says that only 400 units will be produced, which will make the FXE an incredibly rare beast. Delivers of the supercar are set to begin in the second half of 2019. Price? That’s going to be well over 1 million USD.

Aria FXE

As exciting as the FXE is shaping up to be, the project itself would have received its fair share of raised eyebrows from some employees themselves. If a company wants to establish itself as a promising future player in the auto world, it should have played safe and entered the industry as a standalone player with a more sensible product like an all-electric wagon for the masses or invest in the exciting world of autonomous drivability. That said, we do wish Aria earns enough from the FXE to embark on one of the above projects.
