Good news for enthusiasts looking to test the limits of their SUVs as Apollo Tyres has launched a new range of all-terrain tyres called the Apollo Apterra AT2. It will join Apollo’s vast range of tyres offered that include Highway Luxury (HL), Highway Terrain (HT), High Performance (HP) and the All Terrain (AT) tyres for SUVs.
This new range of tyres was designed and developed as a collaborative effort between the two Global R&D Centres -- in Enschede, the Netherlands and in Chennai, India and was tested in South African terrains before being introduced in India. It has been designed to perform on all terrains. Some design highlights include a patented tread design with 3D interlocking sipes, tread with DPF technology and the shoulder design with SAW-Tooth technology, for a higher level of traction.
Other design bits include Triplex casing and high tensile steel belts to makes the tyre highly durable and impact resistant. The herringbone grooves of the tyre help in water dispersion on wet roads and provide better control during off-roading. A wider tread width should help in stability during cornering.
The new tyres will be produced at the company’s Vadodara unit in Gujarat. Apollo plans on selling approximately 15,000 tyres per month in India, and will introduce eight sizes in its initial phase. These sizes will be ideal for SUVs like the Endeavour, Fortuner, Pajero, Force One, Scorpio, XUV 500 and the Hexa. The company also plans on introducing six more sizes in the next phase. In total, Apollo plans on covering upto 90% of the all-terrain vehicle market with this new range of tyres.
