Apple has previewed the iOS 15 operating system at the virtually held Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), 2021. While it comes with a bevy of features, we’ll be talking about the new and improved ones that should make life easier for motorists. Read on to know more.

New App That Lets You ‘Focus’

You can use Apple’s new Focus app to allow only specific notifications, helping you concentrate on the job at hand. As part of this app, there’s a ‘Driving’ mode that allows only driving-related notifications to pop up.

Now More Detailed And Improved Maps

Apple Maps will get upgrades like detailed road markings, crosswalks, turn lanes, and roundabouts. It will also help you stay on top of any on-road mishap and real-time traffic conditions.

These features are of course available in Google Maps as well. But Apple Maps will show landmarks in 3D for a more immersive experience. This year, the updated maps will be available in eight countries: US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Australia. But we don’t have any news for India as of now.

Upload Your ID Card On The Wallet App

You can now upload your license and other vehicular documents on the Wallet app, allowing you to keep the original copies safely. During verification, you can just present the virtual copy of the particular document from your iPhone Wallet. Again, these are limited only to select states in the United States.

Apple was the first to introduce digital car keys, allowing you to unlock the vehicle using your iPhone. Now, the tech giant has rolled out certain refinements.

For starters, you can now lock/unlock and start your car with the phone inside your pocket or wallet. Earlier, you had to bring your iPhone near the request sensor to do that. This is courtesy of ‘spatial awareness’, ensuring that you don’t lock your iPhone inside the car.

Also, it will now allow you to honk, operate the climate control function, or open the boot of your car (but only if you’re not too far away from it). Most of these Car Keys features will be available from the iPhone XS.

Remember that all these features might be country-specific. iOS 15 will be available for users once the new-generation iPhones go on sale around September 2021. Also, the majority of these will only be available from the iPhone XS.
