World’s fourth largest two-wheeler maker, Piaggio, has finally brought out two out of the seven two-wheeler brands it owns, to India. As a start of its Indian two-wheeler operations, the group has just unveieled the high-end premium motorcycle Aprilia RSV4 and a retro-styled modern-day iteration of the iconic Vespa, the LX125 scooter for the first time in the country at the 2011 Mumbai International Motor Show (MIMS), which is being organized in association with ZigWheels.
Superbike Aprilia RSV4 FACTORY, the proud flagship from the Aprilia stable, is a lean mean racing machine that, in line with Aprilia’s tradition, follows a completely innovative approach to its design and construction. Its narrow V-engine, its state-of the-art electronics, its lightness and extreme compactness make it a unique winner. The proof of the pudding lies in the fact that its flagship offering, the RSV4, which was introduced in 2009 won the 2010 World Superbike Championship on its debut outing. And it is the RSV4 which will be unleashed upon the Indian bikers in coming few months. Powered by a 999cc V4 engine, the RSV4 is a thoroughbred performance motorcycle that is set to impress the Indian biking enthusiast.
The other unveiling will be of the iconic and legendary Vespa scooters, which were once a household name in the country. While the LX125 scooter will make its entry into the Indian market only next year, the MIMS will be the first time when the hot number will be seen in flesh in India. Vespa looks well armed to achieve its goal with the new LX125 scooter, which perfectly blends modern-day tech to the classical charm of the Vespa scooters.
The new breed of scooters as well as motorcycles will also be manufactured at the Baramati plant except for the high-performance Aprilia RSV4 superbike which will be imported to India via the CBU route. It is going to be very interesting to see Piaggio penetrate the Indian two-wheeler space with the return of the iconic and legendary Vespa brand of scooters and at the same time slug it out in the other end of the spectrum with premium import motorcycles.
