The 2016 Lamborghini Super Trofeo championship is perhaps the best season for Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim yet. Along with team mate Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri Lanka, Armaan has sealed the 2016 championship in the Pro-Am class in the finals of 2016 Lamborghini Super Trofeo series held at the Valencia circuit in Spain. Besides the championship win in the category, Armaan and Dilantha have also managed to secure third place in the Pro category, owing to consistent performances throughout the season.
The sixth and final round saw the duo secure pole for race 1, which was in fact Armaan's second pole this year, while Dilantha managed to secure fifth position on the grid for race 2. Each team in the Pro-Am championship consists of two drivers who split driving duties for each race, with one driver driving the 'Pro' leg of the race and the other driving in the 'Amateur' leg. For race 1, it was Armaan who took to the wheel first, driving in the Pro category. Armaan drove consistently to ensure he stayed in the lead. However, when Dilantha took over for the Amateur category, he dropped two places and the duo had to settle for third place. Race 2 saw Dilantha start in fifth place, and the Sri Lankan driver had no trouble holding onto his position till the second last lap.
His car got hit from the back even as he was getting into the pits, which damaged the car's suspension. The incident forced Armaan to go out with the damaged suspension, but the Indian driver put in his best efforts to secure a podium finish in race 2, meaning the duo finished fourth overall for the weekend. The results were good enough for Armaan and Dilantha to lift the Pro-Am championship trophy, while also finishing third in the Pro category, their best result yet.
"It was a year full of ups and downs," said Armaan. "My pace was strong through the year and I had two pole positions in the six rounds. In most of the races I was ahead of the Pro drivers during my stints. We could not finish two races earlier which cost us a number of points, otherwise, we would have taken the Pro title too," he added.
