Aston Martin has officially launched the Vantage coupe in India. Priced at Rs 2.95 crore (ex-showroom pan-India), the baby Aston locks horns with the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo, and the Mercedes-AMG GT S. Yes, the BHP per rupee equation does seem a bit low compared to its rivals, but that was never the point about an Aston Martin, was it?
Because with an Aston, you’re almost certainly guaranteed exclusivity. You pay for the sense of occasion, and craftsmanship that the British marquee brings with it. In its latest generation, the Vantage looks edgier than it ever was. The signature grille is now oversized, and the rear looks like nothing else we’ve seen with an Aston Martin badge. It’s available in some particularly loud (read: un-Aston) colours too, like a bright neon green.
Inside, you’re treated with dollops of leather and Alcantara. Features include dual-zone climate control, sports seats with memory and an 8.0-inch screen for the infotainment. Needless to say, you can personalise the way the interior looks and feels to suit your tastes. We’ve spent countless hours on Aston’s configurator, and we recommend you do that if you have some time to kill.
Coming to the heart of the matter, the Vantage is powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 you’d find in a Mercedes-AMG GT. The numbers aren’t vastly different compared to the Mercedes’ either, at 510PS and 685Nm. Couple this jackhammer of a V8 with its dry weight of just over 1500kg, and you’ve got a coupe that does 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds. Keep that accelerator buried into the mat, and you’d see numbers as high as 314kmph there. All of that power is reined by an 8-speed automatic, that sends it to the rear wheels via an electric differential. This diff, Aston says, can vary the torque sent to each wheel based on the level of grip it has.
Bookings for the Aston Martin Vantage are now open exclusively at Infinity Motors. If you head to the showroom right away and cut them a cheque, you stand to get delivery in close to 4 months. Lastly, Aston plans to sell 15 to 20 units by end 2019.
