With this recent wave of electric mobility, Indians are experiencing newer cost-effective ways of buying electric vehicles. Although the traditional one-time payment option remains, newer subscription-based models have emerged for electric two-wheelers. Subscription plans were first introduced with the My Revolt Plan for the Revolt RV400 and the Revolt RV300. Now, you can buy the Ather 450X similarly.
Subscription model:
The Ather 450X will be available in two trims: Plus and Pro. You have to shell out Rs 99,000 (ex-showroom Bengaluru) for the 450X, irrespective of the trim. The packs have to be recharged monthly as Ather forces you to commit to a plan when purchasing the electric scooter. Here’s how the two are different on paper:

The advantage of opting for this service is that you can choose Plus for a month and switch to Pro later. It’s just like the shared Netflix account you use. The month when your stingy friend forgets to pay, you opt for a more basic plan and the following month when they straighten their act, you upgrade to the higher plan.
Another benefit is that you stay eligible for all future updates with unlimited battery warranty. So, you get all the major updates to the scooter as well as the connectivity services free of charge.
Upfront Plan:
In case you would like to own the scooter and not get into the subscription business, Ather will sell you the 450X for Rs 1.49 lakh for the Plus variant and Rs 1.59 lakh for the Pro variant (both prices ex-showroom Bengaluru). However, you will not receive any future mechanical and battery updates by buying it via this method. The battery warranty too comes down to the standard 3 year/50,000km period. You will have to continue to pay for the Ather connected services as you would for the Ather 450.
In case you’re looking to own the scooter for longer than two years, the subscription plans increase the load on your bank balance. Hence, buying it at the upfront amount makes a lot more sense.
