  • We’re as fed up as you are with hearing about coronavirus-related news, but unfortunately we have to bring you some more. Ather Energy is the latest to take measures against COVID-19, and it is doing this by suspending test rides and enquiries at its experience centres in Bengaluru and Chennai. This is being done to curtail the spread of the disease as well as protect its own staff. Ather says the suspension will last till March 31, but with new developments every day, nothing can be said for certain.

If you’ve joined the green revolution and booked yourself a brand new Ather 450 or 450X that’s due to arrive soon, you needn’t worry. That’s because the brand has said deliveries will be unaffected by this development, and Ather’s staff will be taking the necessary precautions at the time of delivery.

As far as servicing of existing scooters goes, the company says it will be scaling down operations by only conducting periodic services and addressing major issues. Minor issues that don’t affect the performance of the scooter cannot be catered to right now. The Ather Grid charging points at the brand’s experience centres will continue to be operational.

When speaking about the impact of COVID-19, CEO Tarun Mehta said, “The impact is not very direct because we’ve localised almost everything in the last 12 months, but there’s an indirect impact because raw materials, cells and lots of passive components in electronics come from China, South Korea and Taiwan.”
