Audi has officially unveiled the next successor to its on-going A3 sedan. The car has been facelifted on similar lines with its bigger sibling, the Audi A4. This is the first update that the A3 has received since its global launch in 2013. Along with the updated exteriors, the A3 receives added features and new engine options.
The exteriors are now more striking, thanks to the restyled Xenon plus headlamps and new grille design with the revised facia of the sedan. Audi has provided the matrix LED headlights as an option for the facelifted A3. The only major change noticeable in the profile of the car are the new 16-inch multi-spoked alloy wheels. At the rear, the car has receives new tail lamps and minor changes to the bumper.
The interiors of the facelifted A3 are pretty much the same apart from the new three-spoke steering wheel and an updated MMI infotainment system. The car also features new tech additions including the optional virtual cockpit technology in the instrumental cluster. This feature is already available in the A4 sedan. For the international variant, the A3 will be equipped with a new traffic jam assist system wherein the system automatically drives the car at speeds up to 64kmph to help maintain a safe distance from the car in front.
For the international market, the facelifted A3 will be offered in five motor options out of which two are new petrol engines. The first is an all-new 1.0-litre TSFI three-cylinder engine that will put out 116PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque. It will be the first time the A3 will be powered by a 3-cylinder engine. The second powerplant is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TSFI engine that will produce 192PS of power and 319Nm of torque. This engine comes with cylinder-on-demand technology in which two cylinders will be inactive when less power is needed. Audi offers a choice between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission for the different car models.
In India, the A3 is offered in different states of tune with a 1.8 TSFI engine and a 2.0-litre TDI engine. Expect Audi to introduce the new 1.0-litre engine when the facelifted variant comes to our shores later this year.
