The much-awaited next-generation Audi A4 is scheduled for its official launch in India on September 8. Being the most popular entry-level luxury sedan from Audi’s product range, the current version of the A4, inclusive of the facelift, has been in the market since 2008.
Notably, Audi will initially launch the luxury sedan with the option of a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine only. The motor will come mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic gearbox. Power figures of the engine are rated at 150PS with peak torque of 250Nm. A diesel variant is likely to follow soon after the launch.
The next generation Audi A4 is based on the MLB Evo platform and has been thoroughly redesigned as far as the quality and refinement of the vehicle is concerned. Audi has managed to shed a drastic weight of up to 95kgs with the adoption of the new platform. The design of the new A4 continues to carry the distinctive look present in the current facelift model with some updates to keep the car competitive in its segment. The main highlights of the next generation model in term of exterior design is the new front facia that comes with split LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), the signature Audi 3D hexagonal grille with horizontal slats and the LED pair of tail lamps.
The German manufacturer has also revamped the interiors of the sedan while still follows the typical Audi styling. The biggest change in the inventory is the addition of the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ that takes its place behind the steering wheel instead of the conventional instrument cluster. The unit features a 12.3-inch TFT display that provides the driver with all the necessary information along with navigation. The ‘Virtual Cockpit’ tech was first introduced by Audi in the new TT sportscar and has made its way to the new A4. Apart from this, the car get creature-comforts like electric adjustment for the front seats, dual-zone climate control and air conditioning vents for the rear passengers.
