Audi India has plonked in a petrol engine under the hood of its flagship SUV, the Q7. The Q7 40 TFSI joins the range more than a year after the all new generation of the SUV made its debut in India. The new Audi Q7 40 TFSI is available in two trim levels and are priced, ex-showroom, as follows:
Q7 40 TFSI Premium Plus - Rs 67.76 lakh
Q7 40 TFSI Technology Pack - Rs 74.43 lakh
The highlight here, of course, is the new petrol engine. Unlike the diesel variants, which are powered by a turbocharged, 3.0-litre V6 engine, the petrol engine is a turbocharged, 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine. It is no slouch for its size though, the 4-cylinder engine develops 252PS of maximum power and 370Nm of peak torque. In comparison, the larger diesel engine develops a similar 252PS of power and a whopping 600Nm of peak torque.
Paired to a similar 8-speed Tiptronic transmission, the Audi Q7 40 TFSI can dispatch the 0-100kmph run in 6.9 seconds, which faster than the torquier V6 diesel by 0.2 seconds. The smaller petrol engine is not as efficient as the diesel though - at 11.68kmp as compared to the diesel's 14.75kmpl. This is down to the engine being tuned for performance and the 2.2 tonne weight of the SUV. Audi's signature quattro AWD system is fitted as standard on the Q7 petrol.
In terms of design, the Q7 40 TFSI is no different from the diesel models. The petite design (as compared to its brawny predecessor) features eye-catching design elements such as the sleek 'Matrix' LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, an estate car-like profile, all-LED taillamps, flushed roof rails, etc.
Inside, the Q7 40 TFSI features the same space-age theme as the diesel variants. The all-digital 'virtual cockpit' instrument cluster, 4-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, optional 19-speaker Bose surround sound system etc. are the highlights on the inside.
Safety features on offer include 8-airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, cruise control, presense (system prepares active safety measures if it detects imminent accident), reverse parking camera and sensors with options 360-degree camera and parking assist.
The Audi Q7 40 TFSI competes against the BMW X5 xDrive 35i (Rs 71 lakh) and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 (Rs 72.06 lakh).
