We were the first to report that Bajaj will be replacing the Avenger Street 180 with the Avenger Street 160. And now, the Chakan-based company has officially launched the new entry-level Avenger Street 160 ABS at Rs 82,253 (ex-showroom Delhi). It undercuts the outgoing Avenger Street 180 by Rs 6,000 and is in fact, the most affordable cruiser in the country at the moment.
Transitioning from a 180 to a 160 may seem like a downgrade, but that doesn’t paint the whole picture. The Avenger 160 uses a smaller 160.4cc air-cooled engine good for 15.3PS and 13.5Nm, which is only 0.5PS and 0.2Nm lower than the Street 180. Not a significant drop then. It also comes equipped with a single-channel ABS as standard - something even the Avenger 180 missed out on.
Other than the aforementioned changes, the Avenger Street 160 carries forward the same features and underpinnings as the outgoing Avenger Street 180. It competes against the Suzuki Intruder 150, which costs Rs 1.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). We will soon be putting the motorcycle through its paces, so stay tuned for our review. Here’s the official press release from Bajaj for more details:
