ZigWheels has learnt that the upcoming Bajaj Discover 150S will be priced at Rs 61,000 for the drum variant and Rs 63,000 for the disc brake variant (both prices on-road Navi Mumbai). At this pricing, the Bajaj Discover 150S will become the cheapest 150cc offering on sale in our country. Bajaj has been able to price the upcoming 150cc offering aggressively as it’s based on the now discontinued Bajaj Discover 125ST. Visually the Bajaj Discover 150S is similar to its 125cc sibling, the differences being restyled graphics, 3D Discover logo on the fuel tank, grab rail finished in black, enclosed chain guard and aluminium side step in black finish.
One of the complaints against the 125ST and indeed one of the main reasons for its poor sales was attributed to the high rear seat – effectively inconveniencing pillion riders – more specifically, ladies, to get on and off the motorcycle. Bajaj seems to have taken that feedback seriously indeed and the new Discover 150S sports a flat and wide seat, and looks to prove to be comfortable as well, both for the rider as well as the pillion. Instrument cluster on the Discover 150S is similar to the 125ST which is an analogue speedometer, odometer, trip meter and fuel gauge while the tachometer has been given a miss to keep cost low. Also, Bajaj will offer the Discover 150S in a new shade of bottle green as seen on the above pictures.
Bajaj hasn’t revealed the technical specification yet but we expect the Bajaj Discover 150S to be powered by a 150cc, air-cooled, twin-spark 4-valve motor churning out around 14PS. The powerplant is mated to a five-speed gearbox in the five-up shift pattern. The 150cc mill also features corrugated fins that Bajaj claims helps in improving dissipation by up to 28 per cent. Apart from being the cheapest 150cc offering, the Bajaj Discover 150S will also become the first bike in its segment to feature 4-valave technology.
The semi double cradle frame has been borrowed from the Discover 125ST which is supported by telescopic front forks and a Nitrox monoshock setup at the rear. Stopping power is provided by 130mm drum brakes at front and rear or one can go for the optional 200mm petal disc brakes option at front. The Bajaj Discover 150S runs on MRF sourced 80/100 R17 section tyre at front and 100/90 R17 section rubber at the back. Bajaj hasn’t revealed the launch date of the Discover 150S but we expect it to happen soon as dealers have started accepting bookings for the bike. The Discover 150S will be followed by the launch of another motorcycle – the Discover 150F, which will be the semi-faired variant of the 150S.
