After taking the wraps off its smoking hot new age Pulsar 200NS earlier this year, Bajaj has now officially launched the bike at a price of Rs 84,096 (ex-showroom, Pune). As we emphasized before, with such an alluring price tag, this new street fighter from the Pune based bike maker is very likely to turn into a solid segment shaker and give a genuinely hard time to all of its immediate competitors. Update (28/06/2012): Bajaj today launched the Pulsar 200NS in Delhi at Rs. 85,000 (ex-showroom). The on-road price of the bike will come to Rs 94,300.
For those still unfamiliar with everything that’s new and exciting on the 200NS, it is powered by a liquid-cooled single cylinder 4-valve SOHC 199.5cc engine that boasts of the world's first triple-sparkplug technology. This motor pumps out a meaty 23.52PS of power @ 9,500rpm and 18.3Nm of torque @ 8000rpm.
Mated to an all-new 6-speed gearbox, the new Pulsar 200NS is capable of reaching 100km/h from a standstill in less than 10 seconds and on full throttle has hit speeds in excess of 140km/h. Becoming the first product from the Bajaj stables to boast of a twin-spar frame and a monoshock suspension unit at the rear, the Pulsar 200NS (Read: Bajaj Pulsar 200NS First Ride) has most of its mass concentrated at the centre presenting the bike with superb handling and cornering abilities.
At a recently held launch event in Pune, Bajaj Auto handed over the keys to the first customers of the new Pulsar 200NS. With Maharashtra today accounting for a sizeable ten percent of the company’s global sales it’s not surprising to hear that of the 200 odd units of the new Pulsar that are now ready for delivery, 65 bookings have already been registered in Pune and approximately 150 bikes registered in Mumbai, leaving Bajaj with little choice but to complete deliveries first in its home state by the end of June, before moving on to other states two to three months hence.
Commenting on the launch in Pune, Mr. Sanjay Saraswat, Vice-President-Marketing, Bajaj Auto said “These sporty iconic motorcycles have been a testimony to the company’s engineering prowess. The Pulsar 200 NS showcases next leap in technology and design and will set the standard for others to follow. We are launching the first Pulsar 200 NS in Maharashtra as we feel that the state has played a major role in Pulsar completing the ‘Decade of Dominance’ with 10 years of leadership in the Indian performance motorcycle market. It will then be progressively launched in the rest of the country."
It is now only a matter of time before enthusiasts across the country get a touch and feel of how exactly the country’s second largest bike-maker has given new a lease of life to its decade old Pulsar brand. And from what we hear the 200NS is but only the start of a wave of revolutionary and aggressively styled motorcycles that will roll out of the Bajaj stables in the near future.
