The Pune-based brand is also set to export Husqvarna to international markets

Update: Finally, there is a date set for the alliance between Bajaj Auto and Triumph to become official. Know all about the development here.

  • Bajaj entered into a non-equity partnership with Triumph back in August 2017.
  • In August, it was reported that the partnership would be finalised by the end of this year.
  • Expect the bike(s) born out of this partnership to hit the roads in 2022.

Along the sidelines of the unveiling of Bajaj’s first EV, the Chetak electric scooter, Rajiv Bajaj hopes to get the deeds done so that the likes of Husqvarna and Triumph motorcycles will be exported from India. The export markets include the US, Europe and Japan. Bajaj had entered into a non-equity partnership with Triumph back in August 2017 and in the same month this year, it was reported that the partnership would be finalised by the end of 2019.

Since the partnership is still under works, expect the concept version of the Bajaj-Triumph bike(s) to be unveiled presumably at the 2021 EICMA show. That’s because the normal development time taken for most motorcycles is around three years. Consequently, expect the bike(s) to be launched in the following year. Bajaj will likely start exporting the co-developed bikes with Triumph a few months after the India launch as the two brands will have to take into account the demand and production for the local market first.

Last year, the Pune-based brand exported 40 per cent of its production, including motorcycles and three-wheelers to close to 79 countries. With the EV segment gaining more importance in recent times, the brand has also confirmed that it will export the Chetak electric scooter to European markets over the next year.

Bajaj is also set to bring in the Husqvarna brand into the country soon. In fact, unofficial bookings of the Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 have already commenced and the bikes are expected to be launched by the end of this year.
