After introducing the loooong Vision 6 Coupe concept at Pebble Beach last year, Mercedes seems to have run out of ideas for this year. Hence, we get the same loooong Vision 6 concept, minus the roof. So, should we be complaining? God no! This mammal is stunning! And since this animal runs on electricity, it looks out for its own kind and keeps them safe.
What is this 5.7-metres long jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, raising people from the dead piece of metal? It's the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. It's powered by a 750PS electric powertrain with the floor area carrying a lot of batteries which power individual motors making it an all-wheel drive lounge. This configuration will let this piece of beauty accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a supercar shaming under-4 second time and reach speeds beyond 250kmph with the limiter removed. But all of this doesn't make it any less 'practical' as the Vision 6 Cabriolet has a range of over 500 kilometres. Yes, you read that right, 500km! But all this is still in theory. Charging the car via a quick-charge gives a range of 100km in just five minutes.
But this car (if you can call it that) is not really about the tech underneath, but the oozing looks on the outside. Designed to look like a yacht, the long swooping bonnet, sensual body lines and the curving side panels make for a sexual yet elegant body design. The front grille features vertical slats which are supposed to replicate a pinstriped suit (because class) and the wheels are freshly designed 24-inch light alloys with a centre lock (because sportiness).
The yacht-like look is further enhanced when viewed from the rear. The narrow tail lights, diffuser with an aluminium frame and the air outlets behind the wheel arches all come together beautifully.
Inside, the Benz features an "inside out" spatial design which, according to Mercedes, makes the "sitting surface form a horizontal plane, which transitions into the vertical plane of the doors and finally becomes the underside of the dashboard wing". Hmmm, ok. Whats good here is that even though everything inside the car looks so futuristic, Mercedes has retained the classic round dials. Also, the aviation-inspired three air vents inside are positioned beneath the wing, which appear to float like engines on an aircraft.
If you are still wondering what the blue thing in the middle of the dashboard is, it's a floating, transparent centre tunnel which "visualises the drive system's electrical energy flow for the passengers by means of blue fibre optics". If you were able to make sense of that, please contact us on our social media platforms using the links below.
Now that I am done talking about the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, I am taking my laptop to be cleaned of bodily fluids (drooling) and suggest you do the same.
