The BMW 1 Series is possibly one of the most loved hatchbacks in India primarily due to its rear wheel drive setup and brilliant handling characteristics. That said, compared to cars like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, it has never been much of a looker. BMW will soon refresh the 1 Series both externally and internally with a possible upgrade mechanically too.
On the outside it will receive some much deserved cosmetic revisions, starting at the front where there's going to be a different fascia inspired by the 2-Series. There will also be a new pair of headlights which, judging from the spy shots, appear to be significantly more appealing than those of the current model. The back of the car will host a reshaped bumper and possibly some tweaks to the taillights with LED treatment.
There will also be a sedan version of the BMW 1 Series that will be eventually launched along with the updated models. The BMW 1 Series sedan will go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the Audi A3 sedan. The updated 1 Series will also feature a new interior that will feature new materials than before and a slightly different layout.
Expect engines to be the same with India getting the 116i and 118d versions. The more powerful 135i and the 125d sadly will not be making it to India anytime soon. The new BMW 1 series will make its debut next year and should be available in India by the end of 2015.
