BMW had unveiled the 1 Series earlier this year, and now the car has made its official public debut at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. As of now, the German carmaker’s first ever compact luxury sedan will be only be sold in the Chinese market.

The design language of the 1 Series is in sync with the larger sedans present in BMW’s current portfolio. On the outside, the car features the signature kidney grille and contoured headlamp cluster. The bumpers have been tweaked to give the car a more aggressive look, and there are creases on the bonnet, shoulder lines on the sides, LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), LED taillights, chrome plated exhaust tips and 5-spoke alloys. Also, the 1 Series measures 4456 mm in length, 1,803 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2670 mm, which makes it the smallest luxury sedan in its segment.

Once you enter the cabin of the 1 Series, you will notice that the car gets features such as a dual tone dashboard, leather upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and rear AC vents, out of many.

The 1 Series sedan is available in three petrol variants -- 118i, 120i, and 125i. Powering the 118i is a 1.5-litre TwinPower turbo engine, which makes 135.85PS of power and is coupled to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the 120i and 125i are powered by the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, producing 191.62PS and 230.14PS of power respectively. Both the cars (120i and 125i) are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Like we mentioned earlier, there is no official confirmation from BMW whether it will get the car to Indian shores or not, but if it does make it, the 1 Series will lock horns with the Audi A3, which is currently the only direct competitor to the compact luxury sedan.
