BMW India has launched the petrol variant of the 5 Series in India at a starting price of Rs 54 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The car has been brought to India as a Completly Built Unit (CBU). Prior to the 520i, BMW had reintroduced the 320i to its existing model range. As of now, BMW is offering the car only in the 'Luxury Line' trim variant of the 5 Series.
In terms of looks, the petrol variant is absolutely identical to the existing diesel variant sold in India apart for the difference in the rear model badges. The car is equipped with the standard LED headlights and the bold signature double-kidney grille that stands prominently where the bonnet lines converge. The 5 Series has the classic lines of a BMW, with the lengthened bonnet followed by the short overhangs and a large wheelbase that accentuate its sportiness. The L-shaped rear LED tail lights completes the aesthetic look of the saloon. The Luxury Line trim variant of the 5 Series in being offered in three colour options- Alpine White, Black Sapphire (metallic), and Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect (metallic).
Coming to the interiors, buyers will be offered to select from three upholstery options- Dakota Cinnamon Brown, Black, Dakota Veneto Beige, and Dakota Oyster with exclusive black stitching. Along with that, the car will also come with ambient light with selectable mood lights, electrical glass sunroof, multi-functional sport leather-wrapped steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seat, wooden trim panels, and floor mats in velour.
Powering the 520i is the same motor that does duty in the 320i car line. The engine is a TwinPower Turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 186PS of max power and 270Nm of peak torque. The powerplant comes coupled to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and can do 0-100kmph in 7.9 seconds.
With the launch of the BMW 520i in India, the luxury sedan will compete against the likes of the Audi A6 35 TSFI, the Mercedes-Benz E 200 and the Jaguar XF.
