Evidently, BMW's future concept designers have been given a free hand to draw out their fantasies. The Vision Next 100 showcased this new design language last year and now BMW has taken a step forward with a new concept for its 'i' division.
The BMW i Vision Dynamics is a closer-to-production imagination of an all-electric four-door coupe that will fill in the huge gap between the BMW i3 and the BMW i8, i.e the rumoured i5. BMW plans to have 25 all-electric models in its lineup by 2025, and the i Vision Dynamics will pave the way for many of those future models.
Under the fantastically designed body, the i Vision Dynamics hides a working drivetrain. While details of the drivetrain have not been revealed, BMW claims that the Gran Coupe has a maximum range of 600km, achieves 0-100kmph in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 'over' 200kmph.
The design of the BMW i Vision Dynamics reflects the drivetrain of the car - doing more with less. Electric drivetrains have less moving parts and are mechanically simpler than their internal combustion engine counterparts. BMW's classic design themes have been reimagined while keeping the proportions similar - the long wheelbase, flowing roofline, short overhangs etc. are characteristic of classic and current BMWs.
