Brace yourselves adventure motorcyclists! BMW has announced that India will host the qualifying round of the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy for the first time in the history of the event. The qualifying round will be held in Goa between October 26-29, 2017. Top three finishers will be given an opportunity to represent India in the grand finale of the 2018 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy in Mongolia. The three qualifiers will be flown to Mongolia by BMW India and they will also be leased a BMW GS motorcycle to compete in the GS Trophy. Commenting on the event, Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “The GS Trophy is a celebration of the spirit of the BMW GS motorcycle, bringing together those elements of leisure, adventure and challenge that this bike engenders. GS riders from all over the India are invited to demonstrate their team spirit, fitness, tenacity and not least their riding capability in several skills challenges. Anyone – man or woman – keen to win a place in this prestigious adventure motorcycle competition should sign up now for the Indian qualifier set to take place in Goa.”
Registration for the Indian national qualifier is open only for BMW GS Motorcycle owners who can register themselves on the BMW Motorrad website. The event will be open to only non-professional riders and the will replicate the challenges of the International GS Trophy. BMW has also said that Indian national qualifiers will be held every two years. The Indian qualifiers will compete against riders from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Latin America, Mexico, Russia, South east Asia, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The final event in Mongolia will be held across 10 days. Even though the GS Trophy isn’t a race, it does consist of special stages that will test the participants both physically and mentally. As mentioned before, the qualifying event is only for non-professional BMW GS owners from India, and former participants from international GS trophies and holders of motorcycle racing license aren’t entitled to take part.
