  • Every time a new motorcycle is on its way, bike makers drip-feed almost every tiny information on the internet. It’s no different with BMW Motorrad’s upcoming R 18 cruiser. But this time, instead of sharing design sketches, the Germans have revealed that the R 18 will be unveiled on April 3.

The big, brute motorcycle has been in the news ever since its first public appearance last year. In fact, BMW even started testing the motorcycle just a few weeks after its debut. Spy shots of the production-spec version revealed that BMW has kept the design similar to what we had seen earlier. Unlike the first set of spy shots, the recent ones suggest BMW could launch the R 18 in a bagger avatar as well.

The highlight of the R 18 is the enormous engine you see in the image above. It is powered by a 1.8-litre 2-cylinder boxer engine, which is the biggest boxer-twin ever seen in any BMW motorcycle! This motor pumps out 91PS at 4750rpm and a peak torque of 158Nm arrives at 3000rpm, paired to a six-speed gearbox.

When will BMW Motorrad launch it in India? Sadly, we don’t have any news on that front. But we expect it to be launched here by either the end of this year or by early next year. However, you might want to start saving from now and your teeny-tiny piggy bank won’t help. In terms of competition, it goes up against the Honda Goldwing (Rs 28.26 lakh), the Indian Challenger (Rs 39.99 lakh), and the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special (Rs 30.53 lakh).
