The all-new BMW 5 Series has been revealed and will be launched early next year in international markets. Now, the German carmaker has also revealed the optional M Performance package for the sedan, which will accompany the car for those who prefer performance and sportiness over luxury and elegance. These M Performance accessories will be available for all variants of the next-gen BMW 5 Series. Let's have a closer look at what these packages have to offer.
Performance
For the BMW 540i and the BMW 540i xDrive, there will be an M Performance Power and Sound Kit which will increase the output of the six-cylinder inline petrol engine by 34PS/50Nm, increasing the output to 360PS/500 Nm. For the diesel models, the BMW M Performance Power Kit will be available for the BMW 530d and the BMW 530d xDrive. The kit will increase the output of the inline 6-cylinder diesel engine by 27PS/30Nm, to 292PS/650Nm.
Sound
To enhance the sound, the package will feature a sporty exhaust system. There will be BMW M Performance silencer which the owners can opt as a separate retrofit option for the BMW 540i, BMW 540i xDrive and BMW 530i. In addition to the engine and acoustics changes, the package includes a stainless steel silencer to make the sedan look sportier. The tailpipes of this system will be either circular or trapezoidal (depending on the type of engine) and will be finished in chrome or carbon fibre, as preferred by the owner.
Brakes And Tyres
With the added power, the performance kit also brings about optimised braking. The M Performance system offers inner vented, perforated lightweight construction brake discs which are made of aluminium, with 4-piston fixed callipers on the front axle and single-piston floating callipers on the rear axle. Finished in red colour, they add to the aesthetic appeal of the sedan. The handling characteristics are sharpened with the addition of 20-inch BMW M Performance light alloy wheels. These wheels are wrapped in 245/35 R20 at the front and 275/30 R20 wheels at the rear.
Aerodynamics
The exterior of the car has certain tweaks to enhance the aerodynamics of the car. Called the ‘M’ aerodynamics package, this kit includes attachment parts for the front bumper, a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler in carbon fibre finish. As supplementary features, there is also a choice of black side sill attachments and, as an alternative to the carbon fibre version, a rear spoiler and rear diffuser made of polyurethane (PUR). The components made out of carbon fibre are elaborately crafted by hand.
Looks
For someone who is looking to upgrade the looks of their all-new 5 Series, there are BMW M Performance exterior mirror caps in carbon fibre, black BMW M Performance radiator grille, black BMW M Performance bars for the brake air channels, side sill stickers with M Performance inscription, and BMW M Performance accent strips. Inside, the pack includes a sports steering wheel in Alcantara with red central marking and silver-grey cross-stitch seam. The BMW M Performance sports steering is accompanied by paddle shifters in vehicles fitted with an 8-speed Steptronic sport transmission.
These kits transform the elegant executive sedan into a sporty performance one. These performance packages will be available at BMW dealerships and can be applied to the all-new 5 series some time after deliveries begin in February 2017.
