BMW Motorrad is planning to officially enter the Indian market in 2016. The German bikemaker is also bracing up to launch its latest adventure tourer offering – BMW S1000XR for the Indian market. The new BMW adventure bike is expected to make its India launch at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi next month. Given the fact that most of the major European brands are already in India, we can expect BMW Motorrad to make an official entry in the Indian market as currently its offerings are brought via dealers. The new motorcycle is an adventure sport motorcycle based on the S1000R roadster and employs a detuned version of the powerplant from the supersports offering. Powering the bike is an in-line-four motor pumping out 161PS at 11,000rpm and peak torque rating of 112Nm at 9,250rpm. The bike has been equipped with two riding modes (Rain & Road), along with Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and ABS.
Suspension is taken care of by Sachs, front and rear. There’s almost 15cm of front travel and 14cm of rear suspension travel. The S1000XR comes kitted out with street tyres, size 120/70-17 in front and 190/55-17 at the back. Brembo brakes feature a pair of 320mm front rotors and radial-mount calipers in front. In back, the 265mm single rotor teams with a two-piston caliper. The BMW S1000XR will compete against the Ducati Multistrada in the Indian market and carry a sticker price of around Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom).
