  • The changes to all three SUVs are purely cosmetic in nature.

  • X5 and X6 receive red accents alongside the blacked-out exterior, unlike the all-black X7.

  • A similar treatment is given inside with red accents on the seats and floor mats for the X5 and X6.

  • Special edition models could reach India by the end of 2021.

BMW has introduced special edition trims to its trio of SUVs. For the X5 and X6 it is the Black Vermilion Edition, whereas the flagship X7 receives the Frozen Black Edition. Essentially, all three SUVs have received cosmetic changes in these special trims.

The cosmetic changes are more apparent in the X5 and X6 Black Vermilion editions, with red bars on the kidney grille, and red M Sport brake calipers that add a nice contrast to the Frozen Black body shade. Other highlights include bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out accents on the window sill, and tweaked front and rear aprons. The X7 Frozen Black Edition receives the same treatment, just without the red accents and tweaked front and rear aprons.

Inside, the X5 and X6 are treated to a full-black leather upholstery, a piano black trim, Anthracite Alcantara headlining and ‘Black Vermilion Edition’ script on the cupholder cover. As is the case outside, red accents feature in the form of contrast stitching on the driver and passenger seats as well as the floor mats. There’s also sun-protective glass with a darker tint on the rear windows.

The cabin changes are subtler for the X7, with Alcantara Anthracite roof liner, crystal glass detailing on the controls and sun-protection glass.

The changes in these special edition models are exclusively cosmetic in nature, with the mechanicals remaining as is.

In India, BMW retails all three SUVs with prices starting from Rs 76.50 lakh (X5), Rs 96.90 lakh (X6), and Rs 95.90 lakh (X7) (ex-showroom). There’s no word on when BMW will introduce these special edition trims to the India-spec models, but we think they will arrive in the country towards the end of this year.
