The turnaround in fortunes Tata Motors was plotting since a few years seems to be showing now. The company’s leading pack on the sales front, the Bolt hatchback and Zest compact sedan are bringing the homegrown carmaker back to the pink of health. The company posted a 37 percent rise in passenger car sales led by these two new offerings. Tata Motors passenger vehicles recorded sales of 10,230 units compared to 7,441 units sold in April 2014.
Tata’s UV offerings however aren’t contributing much to the effort. UV sales have dipped 27 percent compared to the same period last year. A lower entry point for the Aria doesn’t seem to have helped it much and the Safari Storme too isn’t selling well. With just 1,305 units a month, the UV segment needs a rethink.
Meanwhile, a big launch for Tata Motors will be the GenX Nano with the AMT gearbox. In the affordable car segment, the new AMT unit promises to take the entry price point for an automatic to a whole to level. If Tata Motors gets its marketing strategy this time around, the Nano AMT could well be the variant that flips the Nano’s fortune on its head.
