The production of the 401 range has been shifted to the Chakan plant
  • Husqvarna surprised us with the India-specific 250cc models.
  • The 401s share their platform with the KTM 390s.
  • There will be small changes to the India-spec models.
  • After giving us our first taste of Swedish delicacies just a few weeks ago, Husqvarna India is readying for the launch of the larger Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401. Yes, the larger Huskies will be heading to dealerships near you before the end of 2020.

Husqvarna kickstarted its India innings with the 250cc versions of the Svartpilen and Vitpilen motorcycles. These are the stylish alternatives to the racy 250 Duke with the former being an urban scrambler and its sibling, a cafe racer. We recently took a spin on the both of these Huskies and here’s what we make of them.

Coming back to the 401s, we think there might be some changes to the India-spec motorcycles. Firstly, they are unlikely to be equipped with spoke rims. Yes, we know the appeal of those wire spoke rims on these neo-retro machines cannot be matched up by alloys. Nevertheless, if they look as gorgeous as they did on the 250s, then we have a winner. The pillion grab handle will be standard for India too.

We expect these Husqvarnas to be priced slightly lower or on par with the KTM 390 Duke. The possibility of it being lower is high as currently there is a big price difference between the Bajaj Dominar 400 and the KTM 390 Duke. The Dominar 400, after its recent price revision, costs Rs 1,96,258 (ex-showroom Delhi). The KTM 390 Duke last received a price revision in May, with the bike now retailing at Rs 2,57,906. That’s a difference of almost Rs 60,000 between the Bajaj and KTM products. Maybe Husqvarna could split the two with a price tag ranging between Rs 2.30 lakh and Rs 2.35 lakh.

The Huskies will then be great rivals for the BS6 versions of the Honda CB300R and the BMW G 310 R, both bikes playing around with the premium factor.
