From what appears now, Audi A3 sedan and Q3 SUV BS4 stocks have run out in India. Both the cars were powered by a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. This move comes after the BS6 switchover deadline of April 1, 2020. Meanwhile, the wait for BS6 versions of both the A3 and Q3 begins.
Rivalling the CLA sedan in India, the A3 was priced from Rs 29.21 lakh to Rs 32.21 lakh. Our last brush with the entry-level luxury sedan was when it got a massive price cut of around Rs 5 lakh back in June 2019. Both the engines were available in two trim options: Premium and Technology. The TFSI engine developed 150PS and 250Nm of torque paired with a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the diesel was good enough for 143PS/320Nm mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Q3 also shared these engines with the sedan. The 1.4-litre TFSI unit was available in front wheel drive and developed the same 150PS of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. Meanwhile, the 2.0-litre diesel engine produced a healthier 184PS of power and 380Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
That said, the 2020 iteration of the Q3 is expected to be launched in India within the next few months. It will be a petrol-only offering and is likely to be powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 190PS and 320Nm. There are various updates to the styling, cabin and features and we expect it to retail between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (on-road). Audi has globally revealed the new A3 Sportback while the sedan version is also set to break cover later this year.
