Yamaha had sent out a “Block Your Date” invite for an event on December 19 in Chennai. We believe the Japanese brand is likely to launch the BS6-compliant version of its popular scooter, the Fascino, tomorrow.
Interestingly, the test mule of the BS6-compliant scooter was spotted in October this year. The spy shots reveal a larger bodywork with a longer seat. Going by the visual space at the rear, it could get an external fuel filler too. This will make refuelling a lot easier than using the conventional underseat fuel fillers. While the engine will be updated with fuel injection to comply with BS6 emission norms, its output figures might remain more or less the same compared to the current-gen carburetted motor. This is because Yamaha will want to keep the scooter fuel-efficient, so it is less likely to be more powerful. For reference, the current model’s 113cc air-cooled engine generates 7.2PS and 8.2Nm.
The scooter in the spy shot also featured a larger 12-inch front and a smaller 10-inch rear alloy wheel. Even though the test mule featured drum brakes on both ends, expect a front disc to be offered at least as an option considering the wheel is large enough to accommodate one.
The BS6 Yamaha Fascino is likely to command a premium of Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 over the current-gen model. The BS4 Fascino is currently priced at Rs 57,523 (ex-showroom Delhi). When launched, the new Fascino will compete against the Honda Activa 5G and BS6 TVS Jupiter Classic.
